The Trust was established in 1992 by David Hempleman-Adams and Major Richard Mitchell - famous for their record-breaking Arctic, Antarctic and mountain climbing expeditions - but equally successful in their professional lives.

The idea for the Mitchemp Trust emerged from a discussion during one of these expeditions, when David and ‘Mitch’ thought about what experiences had helped them to believe in their own abilities and push their own horizons. They agreed that their early experiences in challenging themselves through the outdoors had shown both of them that they could always do more that they thought they could.
